After pro\u00advi\u00adsio\u00adnal cal\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons by Arbeits\u00adge\u00admein\u00adschaft Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen (AG Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen), the decrease is esti\u00adma\u00adted at just 5 per\u00adcent. The major influence on con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon trends last year was the mild wea\u00adther, cle\u00adar\u00adly redu\u00adcing the need for hea\u00adting. Ano\u00adther major fac\u00adtor in 2011 was the high pri\u00adce for ener\u00adgy. A fur\u00adther sta\u00adtis\u00adti\u00adcal effect results from the pha\u00adsin\u00adgout of nuclear ener\u00adgy and the deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon from rene\u00adwa\u00adble ener\u00adgies and also of power plants with hig\u00adher effi\u00adci\u00aden- cy. Cor\u00adrec\u00adted for the effect of wea\u00adther, ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon in 2011 decreased by only one per\u00adcent. Gross power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon is esti\u00adma\u00adted to have drop\u00adped by just 3 per\u00adcent.<\/p><p>Mine\u00adral oil con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon amoun\u00adted last year to 4,549 PJ, ther\u00adeby drop\u00adping to its lowest level sin\u00adce 1990. Com\u00adpared with the pre\u00advious year, con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon drop\u00adped by 3 per\u00adcent. Increa\u00adses occur\u00adred only for die\u00adsel, with sales up by 2 per\u00adcent becau\u00adse of the eco\u00adno\u00admic situa\u00adti\u00adon. Petrol and kero\u00adse\u00adne, on the con\u00adtra\u00adry, were slight\u00adly in the red. Demand for hea\u00adting fuel fell shar\u00adply. Sales of light hea\u00adting oil were 15 per\u00adcent lower than the pre\u00advious year and hea\u00advy hea\u00adting oil decreased by 3 per\u00adcent. In addi\u00adti\u00adon to the mild wea\u00adther, pri\u00adces were also espe\u00adci\u00adal\u00adly com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adve during the cour\u00adse of the year becau\u00adse of con\u00adsu\u00admers wai\u00adting to purcha\u00adse.<\/p><p>Natu\u00adral gas con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon in 2011 remain\u00aded a good 10 per\u00adcent lower than the pre\u00advious year and rea\u00adched 2,760 PJ. Even though the eco\u00adno\u00admic situa\u00adti\u00adon had a posi\u00adti\u00adve impact of the de- liveries of gas, the near\u00adly con\u00adstant hig\u00adher tem\u00adpe\u00adra\u00adtures com\u00adpared with the pre\u00advious year resul\u00adted in decli\u00adning deli\u00adveries on the heat mar\u00adket. The input of natu\u00adral gas to power plants for elec\u00adtri\u00adci\u00adty and heat was sta\u00adble during the second half year after a clear decrease during the first half of the year; gene\u00adral\u00adly it remain\u00aded lower than the pre\u00advious year.<\/p><p>Con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon of hard coal in 2011 drop\u00adped slight\u00adly by 0.7 per\u00adcent. In total 1,685 PJ were con\u00adsu\u00admed. The input of hard coal to power plants, repre\u00adsen\u00adting more than two thirds of total con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon, decreased by about 2 per\u00adcent. The iron and steel indus\u00adtry increased its demand by about 4 per\u00adcent. Deli\u00adveries to the heat mar\u00adket decli\u00adned becau\u00adse of the wea\u00adther.<\/p><p>Con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon of lig\u00adni\u00adte increased by just 4 per\u00adcent to 1,568 PJ. This increase mir\u00adrored the posi\u00adti\u00adve trends of deli\u00adveries to power plants, who take about 90 per\u00adcent of dome\u00adstic lig\u00adni\u00adte pro\u00adduc\u00adtion. Lig\u00adni\u00adte pro\u00adducts also increased.<\/p><p>Nuclear ener\u00adgy redu\u00adced its con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon to the ener\u00adgy balan\u00adce, fol\u00adlo\u00adwing the decis\u00adi\u00adon to pha\u00adse-out, by just 23 per\u00adcent in the cour\u00adse of the year.<\/p><p>Rene\u00adwa\u00adble ener\u00adgies in 2011 increased by 4.1 per\u00adcent. With their con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon of 1,449 PJ, they increased their share to just 11 per\u00adcent. The con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adons of wind (+22 per\u00adcent) and pho\u00adto\u00advol\u00adtaic (+67 per\u00adcent) increased espe\u00adci\u00adal\u00adly stron\u00adgly. The use of bio\u00adgas increased by 21 per\u00adcent. On the con\u00adtra\u00adry, the con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adons of hydro (wit\u00adhout pump sto\u00adrage) drop\u00adped by 9 per\u00adcent and of bio fuels by 8 per\u00adcent. Pho\u00adto\u00advol\u00adtaic in 2011 con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adted for the first time more to the ener\u00adgy balan\u00adce than hydro in terms of amount.<\/p><p>The balan\u00adce exch\u00adan\u00adges of power with neigh\u00adbor\u00ading Euro\u00adpean count\u00adries still show\u00aded at the end of 2011 a small excess of exports amoun\u00adting to 5 tera\u00adwatt hours (TWh). This trend hides a signi\u00adfi\u00adcant increase of imports of power and at the same time a decrease in exports of power.<\/p><p>The ener\u00adgy poli\u00adcy decis\u00adi\u00adons adopted in 2010 and 2011 to pro\u00admo\u00adte rene\u00adwa\u00adble ener\u00adgies and to pha\u00adse-out nuclear ener\u00adgy are reflec\u00adted in the pri\u00adma\u00adry ener\u00adgy balan\u00adce of the past year as slight\u00adly alte\u00adred shares. Howe\u00adver, the wea\u00adther and stock levels have also influen\u00adced the struc\u00adtu\u00adre of pri\u00adma\u00adry ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon. The main source of ener\u00adgy in 2011 remain\u00aded oil with 33.8 per\u00adcent. Oil is fol\u00adlo\u00adwed by natu\u00adral gas, who\u00adse share decreased slight\u00adly to 20.6 per\u00adcent. Hard coal increased its con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon to the ener\u00adgy mix to 12.6 per\u00adcent and lig\u00adni\u00adte rea\u00adched a share of 11.7 per\u00adcent. Nuclear ener\u00adgy drop\u00adped to 8.8 per\u00adcent. Rene\u00adwa\u00adbles in- creased their con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon to the ener\u00adgy mix to 10.8 per\u00adcent. Other sources of ener\u00adgy and the balan\u00adce of power exch\u00adan\u00adges amoun\u00adted to 1.7 per\u00adcent.<\/p><p>Fol\u00adlo\u00adwing decre\u00adasing ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon, ener\u00adgy-rela\u00adted CO\u2082 emis\u00adsi\u00adons drop\u00adped by more than 3 per\u00adcent.
