Accor\u00adding to preli\u00admi\u00adna\u00adry cal\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons made by the Arbeits\u00adge\u00admein\u00adschaft Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen (AB Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen) \u2013 Working Group on Ener\u00adgy Balan\u00adces (Ener\u00adgy Balan\u00adces Group), this equ\u00adals an increase of 1.3 per\u00adcent com\u00adpared to the pre\u00advious year.<\/p><p>The increase is pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly due to the wea\u00adther, which was slight\u00adly coo\u00adler than the very mild pre\u00advious year, and the asso\u00adcia\u00adted hig\u00adher demand for hea\u00adting ener\u00adgy. Accor\u00adding to esti\u00adma\u00adtes of the AG Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen, the increase in con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon resul\u00adting from the posi\u00adti\u00adve eco\u00adno\u00admic trend (+ 1.8 %) and the growth in popu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon (+ 1 mil\u00adli\u00adon peo\u00adp\u00adle) was com\u00adpen\u00adsa\u00adted by gains in ener\u00adgy effi\u00adci\u00aden\u00adcy.<\/p><p>If adjus\u00adted to the wea\u00adther effect, last year\u2019s ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon would have decreased by 1.5 to 2 per\u00adcent. With regard to CO\u2082 emis\u00adsi\u00adons, the AG Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen anti\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adtes only a slight increase when com\u00adpared to the pre\u00advious year. It was pos\u00adsi\u00adble to cover a sub\u00adstan\u00adti\u00adal por\u00adti\u00adon of the increase in con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon with rene\u00adwa\u00adbles and, thus, wit\u00adhout any hig\u00adher emis\u00adsi\u00adons. In addi\u00adti\u00adon, the equal\u00adly high mine\u00adral oil con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon and the decli\u00adne in hard coal con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon redu\u00adced the CO\u2082 emis\u00adsi\u00adons. Adjus\u00adted to the tem\u00adpe\u00adra\u00adtu\u00adre effect, CO\u2082 emis\u00adsi\u00adons are appro\u00adxi\u00adm\u00adate\u00adly 2 per\u00adcent below the pre\u00advious year\u2019s value.<\/p><h2>Different Trends for Individual Energy Sources<\/h2><p>In 2015, mine\u00adral oil con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon remain\u00aded vir\u00adtual\u00adly unch\u00adan\u00adged at the pre\u00advious year\u2019s level. Total con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon amoun\u00adted to 4,511 PJ or 153.6 Mtce which is 0.1 per\u00adcent less than in 2014. While the con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon of die\u00adsel fuel increased by almost 4 per\u00adcent, which is pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly due to the hig\u00adher demand from the trans\u00adpor\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon and con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion sec\u00adtors, gaso\u00adli\u00adne con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon exhi\u00adbi\u00adted a minus of 2 per\u00adcent becau\u00adse of the decli\u00adning num\u00adbers of pas\u00adsen\u00adger cars with gaso\u00adli\u00adne engi\u00adnes. Sales of avia\u00adti\u00adon fuel remain\u00aded at last year\u2019s level. For light fuel oil, an increase in sales fai\u00adled to appear despi\u00adte the low pri\u00adces becau\u00adse con\u00adsu\u00admers met their increased demand pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly from the exis\u00adting stocks.<\/p><p>Natu\u00adral gas con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon went up by 5 per\u00adcent to 2,804 PJ or 95.7 Mtce. This was main\u00adly due to the wea\u00adther during the first half of the year, which was actual\u00adly coo\u00adler when com\u00adpared to the very mild tem\u00adpe\u00adra\u00adtures of the pre\u00advious year, and to the asso\u00adcia\u00adted increase in using natu\u00adral gas for hea\u00adting pur\u00adpo\u00adses. Howe\u00adver, the wea\u00adther during the fourth quar\u00adter of the year, which was once again very mild, dam\u00adpened this growth quite con\u00adsider\u00ada\u00adb\u00adly. With a minus of 7 per\u00adcent, the\u00adre was ano\u00adther decli\u00adne in power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon from natu\u00adral gas.<\/p><p>Hard coal con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon in 2015 drop\u00adped by 0.7 per\u00adcent to 1,691 PJ or 57.7 Mtce. Hard coal par\u00adti\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adted in an increase in power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon in Ger\u00adma\u00adny also becau\u00adse of the very low glo\u00adbal mar\u00adket pri\u00adces. The use of hard coal in power plants, thus, decreased only modera\u00adte\u00adly by about 0.8 per\u00adcent. Sales to the iron and steel indus\u00adtry remain\u00aded sta\u00adble at the pre\u00advious year\u2019s level. All told, around two thirds of the enti\u00adre hard coal con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon in Ger\u00adma\u00adny can be attri\u00adbu\u00adted to power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon.<\/p><p>Lig\u00adni\u00adte con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon in 2015 amoun\u00adted to 1,587 PJ or 54.1 Mtce, which was slight\u00adly abo\u00adve the pre\u00advious year\u2019s value. Appro\u00adxi\u00adm\u00adate\u00adly 90 per\u00adcent of the extra\u00adc\u00adted lig\u00adni\u00adte was used in power plants for the gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon of power and heat; lig\u00adni\u00adte mining remai\u00adning fair\u00adly sta\u00adble when com\u00adpared to the pre\u00advious year. With about 155 tera\u00adwatt hours (TWh), power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon from lig\u00adni\u00adte was also at the pre\u00advious year\u2019s level.<\/p><p>Nuclear ener\u00adgy exhi\u00adbi\u00adted a minus of almost 6 per\u00adcent, which is due to the decom\u00admis\u00adsio\u00adning of the Gra\u00adfen\u00adrhein\u00adfeld nuclear power plant in mid-year.<\/p><p>Rene\u00adwa\u00adbles enhan\u00adced their con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon by a total of about 11 per\u00adcent to 1,679 PJ or 57.3 Mtce. While power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon from bio\u00admass increased by about 2 per\u00adcent, the pro\u00adpor\u00adti\u00adon of hydro power (exclu\u00adding pum\u00adped sto\u00adrage) remain\u00aded at the pre\u00advious year\u2019s level. Wind power on land and off shore exhi\u00adbi\u00adted a plus of 50 per\u00adcent com\u00adpared to the pre\u00advious year. The share of solar ener\u00adgy (pho\u00adto\u00advol\u00adtaics and solar ther\u00admal ener\u00adgy) increased by 6 per\u00adcent. Bio fuels expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adced a decli\u00adne of 5 per\u00adcent.<\/p><p>The export sur\u00adplus for power increased con\u00adsider\u00ada\u00adb\u00adly. Other ener\u00adgy sources, pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly dome\u00adstic and indus\u00adtri\u00adal was\u00adte, expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adced a plus of almost 4 per\u00adcent.<\/p><h2>The Energy Mix Adjusts Itself<\/h2><p>The struc\u00adtu\u00adre of ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon (ener\u00adgy mix) con\u00adti\u00adnues to be cha\u00adrac\u00adte\u00adri\u00adzed by the high pro\u00adpor\u00adti\u00adon of mine\u00adral oil (33.8 per\u00adcent). Natu\u00adral gas covers more than one fifth of the total con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon. Hard coal and lig\u00adni\u00adte joint\u00adly cover more than one quar\u00adter of the ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon in Ger\u00adma\u00adny with each con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adting almost the same share. Rene\u00adwa\u00adbles increased their con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon in 2015 by more than one per\u00adcent to 12.6 per\u00adcent.
