This increase is pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly due to the wea\u00adther, which was slight\u00adly coo\u00adler than the much mil\u00adder pre\u00advious year, and the asso\u00adcia\u00adted hig\u00adher demand for hea\u00adting ener\u00adgy explai\u00adned the Arbeits\u00adge\u00admein\u00adschaft Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen (AG Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen) \u2014 Working Group on Ener\u00adgy Balan\u00adces (Ener\u00adgy Balan\u00adces Group) when it pre\u00adsen\u00adted its report on the deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon in Ger\u00adma\u00adny. Accor\u00adding to cal\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons of the AG Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen, the posi\u00adti\u00adve eco\u00adno\u00admic deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment as well as the growth in popu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon also led to an increase in ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon which was, though, almost com\u00adpen\u00adsa\u00adted by gains in ener\u00adgy effi\u00adci\u00aden\u00adcy. Wit\u00adhout the con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adto\u00adry fac\u00adtor of the coo\u00adler wea\u00adther con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons, ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon would have actual\u00adly decreased by 0.4 %, announ\u00adced the AG Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen.<br>The AG Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen assu\u00admes that CO\u2082 emis\u00adsi\u00adons will pro\u00adba\u00adb\u00adly only increase slight\u00adly com\u00adpared to last year due to the wea\u00adther becau\u00adse the growth in con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon was pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly attri\u00adbu\u00adta\u00adble to low-emis\u00adsi\u00adon or emis\u00adsi\u00adon-free ener\u00adgy car\u00adri\u00aders while the con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon of hard<br>coal and lig\u00adni\u00adte decli\u00adned.<\/p><h2>Divergent Development among Individual Energy Carriers<\/h2><p>In 2015, mine\u00adral oil con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon remain\u00aded essen\u00adti\u00adal\u00adly unch\u00adan\u00adged at the same level as in the pre\u00advious year and amoun\u00adted to 4,511 PJ or 153.9 Mtce. While the con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon of die\u00adsel fuel increased signi\u00adfi\u00adcant\u00adly due to hig\u00adher demand from the trans\u00adpor\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon and con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion sec\u00adtors, gaso\u00adli\u00adne exhi\u00adbi\u00adted a slight decrease becau\u00adse of the decli\u00adning num\u00adber of vehic\u00adles with gaso\u00adli\u00adne engi\u00adnes. Sales of avia\u00adti\u00adon fuels were on par with last year. Sales of light fuel oil did not increase becau\u00adse con\u00adsu\u00admers met their increased demand pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly from exis\u00adting oil stocks.<\/p><p>Natu\u00adral gas con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon increased by 5 per\u00adcent to 2,812 PJ or 95.9 Mtce. The main reason were the coo\u00adler wea\u00adther con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons during the first half of the year com\u00adpared to the very mild pre\u00advious year and the asso\u00adcia\u00adted increased use of natu\u00adral gas for hea\u00adting pur\u00adpo\u00adses. The wea\u00adther con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons during the fourth quar\u00adter were once again very mild which dam\u00adpened the growth, though, con\u00adsider\u00ada\u00adb\u00adly.<\/p><p>Con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon of hard coal drop\u00adped slight\u00adly to 1,691 PJ or 57.7 Mtce in 2015. About two thirds of the enti\u00adre con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon of hard coal in Ger\u00adma\u00adny is used for power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon. The use of hard coal decreased slight\u00adly despi\u00adte a gene\u00adral increase in power con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon and very low pri\u00adces for hard coal on the glo\u00adbal mar\u00adket. Sales to the iron and steel indus\u00adtries were at the same level as last year.<\/p><p>In 2015, the con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon of lig\u00adni\u00adte stay\u00aded slight\u00adly below last year\u2019s value and rea\u00adched 1,567 PJ or 53.5 Mtce. About 90 per\u00adcent of the pro\u00adduc\u00adtion was used in power plants to gene\u00adra\u00adte elec\u00adtri\u00adci\u00adty and heat. With about 155 tera\u00adwatt hours (TWh), power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon from lig\u00adni\u00adte stay\u00aded also at the same level as last year.<\/p><p>Nuclear ener\u00adgy decreased by about 6 per\u00adcent which is attri\u00adbu\u00adta\u00adble to the decom\u00admis\u00adsio\u00adning of the Gra\u00adfen\u00adrhein\u00adfeld nuclear power plant in mid 2015.<\/p><p>Rene\u00adwa\u00adble ener\u00adgies increased their con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon in sum total by about 10 per\u00adcent to 1,669 PJ or 56.9 Mtce. While elec\u00adtri\u00adci\u00adty pro\u00adduc\u00adtion from bio\u00admass increased by around 2 per\u00adcent, the con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon of hydro\u00adpower (exclu\u00adding pum\u00adped sto\u00adrage) drop\u00adped slight\u00adly. Onshore and off\u00adshore wind power exhi\u00adbi\u00adted an increase of more than 50 per\u00adcent com\u00adpared to the pre\u00advious year.<\/p><p>Solar energy\u2019s (pho\u00adto\u00advol\u00adtaics and solar ther\u00admal ener\u00adgy) con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon grew by 7 per\u00adcent. Bio\u00adfuels recor\u00added a decrease of 6 per\u00adcent. The export sur\u00adplus of elec\u00adtri\u00adci\u00adty increased signi\u00adfi\u00adcant\u00adly. The remai\u00adning ener\u00adgy car\u00adri\u00aders, pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly resi\u00adden\u00adti\u00adal and indus\u00adtri\u00adal was\u00adte, increased by about 2 per\u00adcent.<\/p><p>In 2015, dome\u00adstic ener\u00adgy pro\u00adduc\u00adtion increased by 1.6 % to 4,131 PJ or 139.3 Mtce. While rene\u00adwa\u00adble ener\u00adgy sources con\u00adtin\u00adued to increase their con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon to dome\u00adstic ener\u00adgy pro\u00adduc\u00adtion, dome\u00adstic hard coal and natu\u00adral gas pro\u00adduc\u00adtion decreased. More than 80 per\u00adcent of dome\u00adstic ener\u00adgy pro\u00adduc\u00adtion comes from rene\u00adwa\u00adble ener\u00adgy sources and lig\u00adni\u00adte. All told, dome\u00adstic ener\u00adgy pro\u00adduc\u00adtion was able to meet 31 per\u00adcent of the enti\u00adre con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon last year.<\/p><p>In addi\u00adti\u00adon to pre\u00adcise data of the trends in con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon, the Annu\u00adal Report of the AG Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen also pro\u00advi\u00addes detail\u00aded infor\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon on the con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon after its adjus\u00adt\u00adment to the tem\u00adpe\u00adra\u00adtu\u00adre effect, ener\u00adgy effi\u00adci\u00aden\u00adcy, the share of imports, dome\u00adstic pro\u00adduc\u00adtion, pri\u00adce<br>trends as well as an initi\u00adal esti\u00adma\u00adte of the ener\u00adgy-rela\u00adted CO\u2082 emis\u00adsi\u00adons.
