Accor\u00adding to preli\u00admi\u00adna\u00adry cal\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons con\u00adduc\u00adted by the Arbeits\u00adge\u00admein\u00adschaft Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen (AG Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen) \u2013 Working Group on Ener\u00adgy Balan\u00adces (Ener\u00adgy Balan\u00adces Group), increa\u00adses were recor\u00added for the con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon of mine\u00adral oil and natu\u00adral gas while coal and nuclear ener\u00adgy exhi\u00adbi\u00adted a down\u00adturn. Rene\u00adwa\u00adbles were able to sub\u00adstan\u00adti\u00adal\u00adly aug\u00adment, in part, their con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon. The increase in con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon is pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly due to the posi\u00adti\u00adve eco\u00adno\u00admic trend. When it comes to rene\u00adwa\u00adbles, good wind con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons both on land and off shore, a slight\u00adly hig\u00adher num\u00adber of suns\u00adhi\u00adne hours, and the con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion of addi\u00adtio\u00adnal wind tur\u00adbi\u00adnes essen\u00adti\u00adal\u00adly ensu\u00adred that more elec\u00adtri\u00adci\u00adty was fed into the grid. For ener\u00adgy-rela\u00adted CO\u2082 emis\u00adsi\u00adons, the AG Ener\u00adgie\u00adbi\u00adlan\u00adzen anti\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adtes a sta\u00adgna\u00adting deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment.<\/p><p>Mine\u00adral oil con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon in Ger\u00adma\u00adny increased by a total of 3 per\u00adcent to 4,675 PJ (159.5 Mtce) in 2017. This deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment was, abo\u00adve all, a result of the increased fuel con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon. Gaso\u00adli\u00adne and die\u00adsel fuel exhi\u00adbi\u00adted a plus of about 2 per\u00adcent respec\u00adtively. The con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon of avia\u00adti\u00adon fuel only went up slight\u00adly by 0.7 per\u00adcent. Sales of light fuel oils recor\u00added an increase of about 2 per\u00adcent while sup\u00adpli\u00ades of naph\u00adtha to the che\u00admi\u00adcal indus\u00adtry increased by slight\u00adly more than 7 per\u00adcent.<\/p><p>Natu\u00adral gas con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon pea\u00adk\u00aded at 3,200 PJ (109.2 Mtce) and was, thus, 5.2 per\u00adcent hig\u00adher than the pre\u00advious year. This deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment was influen\u00adced to a lar\u00adge ext\u00adent by the increased use of natu\u00adral gas in power plants for the gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon of power and heat. Due to the com\u00adpa\u00adra\u00adb\u00adly coo\u00adler wea\u00adther during indi\u00advi\u00addu\u00adal months of the pre\u00advious year, the use of natu\u00adral gas for hea\u00adting pur\u00adpo\u00adses also recor\u00added an ups\u00adwing. Indus\u00adtry also used more natu\u00adral gas for the gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon of power and heat.<\/p><p>Hard coal con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon decreased by 10.4 per\u00adcent and pea\u00adk\u00aded at a total of 1,489 PJ (50.8 Mtce). Dis\u00adpla\u00adce\u00adment effects occur\u00adred in power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon becau\u00adse more elec\u00adtri\u00adci\u00adty pro\u00addu\u00adced from rene\u00adwa\u00adbles was fed into the grid and more power was gene\u00adra\u00adted in natu\u00adral gas fired coge\u00adnera\u00adti\u00adon plants. In addi\u00adti\u00adon, seve\u00adral hard coal fired power plants were taken off the grid. The iron and steel indus\u00adtry increased its use of coal and coke slight\u00adly by appro\u00adxi\u00adm\u00adate\u00adly 0.6 per\u00adcent.<\/p><p>Lig\u00adni\u00adte con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon fell 0.6 below the pre\u00advious year\u2019s result and pea\u00adk\u00aded at 1,510 PJ (51.5 Mtce). A redu\u00adced use in the exis\u00adting power plants, which are sup\u00adpli\u00aded with about 90 per\u00adcent of the lig\u00adni\u00adte extra\u00adc\u00adted in Ger\u00adma\u00adny, as well as the trans\u00adfer of the first power plant units into their four year stand\u00adby mode for back\u00adup pur\u00adpo\u00adses cau\u00adsed power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon from lig\u00adni\u00adte to decli\u00adne by 1 per\u00adcent to 148 tera\u00adwatt hours in 2017.<\/p><p>Due to power plant over\u00adhauls, nuclear ener\u00adgy recor\u00added a minus of 10.3 per\u00adcent. All told, nuclear ener\u00adgy still con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adted a share of 828 PJ (28.3 Mtce) to the ener\u00adgy balan\u00adce in 2017.<\/p><p>Rene\u00adwa\u00adbles enhan\u00adced their con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adon to the total ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon in 2017 by more than 6 per\u00adcent, wher\u00adeby the indi\u00advi\u00addu\u00adal forms of ener\u00adgy exhi\u00adbi\u00adted dif\u00adfe\u00adrent trends: Due to the wea\u00adther con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons and com\u00adpared to the pre\u00advious year, power gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon from hydro power (exclu\u00adding pum\u00adped sto\u00adrage) decreased by about 4 per\u00adcent. The elec\u00adtri\u00adci\u00adty which was pro\u00addu\u00adced by wind tur\u00adbi\u00adnes and fed into the grid, howe\u00adver, increased signi\u00adfi\u00adcant\u00adly by 34 per\u00adcent. Solar ener\u00adgy (solar heat and PV power) exhi\u00adbi\u00adted an increase of 5 per\u00adcent. Geo\u00adther\u00admal ener\u00adgy recor\u00added an over\u00adall plus of 7 per\u00adcent. Bio\u00admass and was\u00adte sta\u00adgna\u00adted at the pre\u00advious year\u2019s level. The pro\u00adpor\u00adti\u00adon of rene\u00adwa\u00adbles of Germany\u2019s total ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon increased to<br>13.1 per\u00adcent in 2017.<\/p><p>Com\u00adpared to the pre\u00advious year, the con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adons of the diver\u00adse ener\u00adgy sources to the natio\u00adnal ener\u00adgy mix have shifted fur\u00adther in 2017: Mine\u00adral oil and natu\u00adral gas as well as rene\u00adwa\u00adbles were able to increase their shares in the ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon. Nuclear ener\u00adgy and hard coal exhi\u00adbi\u00adted signi\u00adfi\u00adcant and lig\u00adni\u00adte slight decli\u00adnes. All told, the Ger\u00adman ener\u00adgy sup\u00adp\u00adly is based on a broad mix of available ener\u00adgy sources. Oil and gas account for almost 60 per\u00adcent of the dome\u00adstic ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adti\u00adon.
